Once upon a time, a king ruled a country. He regretted that
his countrymen used to blame the king for whatever he did. He was wise and
wanted to teach his people a good lesson and correct them.
He had a boulder
placed in the middle of the shopping street where people were walking. It was a
stone that one could lift if one man tried. Many people who came that way
crossed the stone lying in the middle of the road.
Some people say what's wrong with this? There is such a big
stone in the middle of the road, why not take it and put it somewhere else?
Even this responsibility does not belong to the government? How can the country
progress if this is the case? They muttered and walked aside.
A week passed like
this and the king thought that all the people living in that city must have
passed through that boulder. He told all his countrymen even in the shop street
where everyone gathered there eager to know what was going on.
The king ordered one of his servants to “pick up that stone
lying in the middle of the road and put it aside”. As the king said, he lifted
the boulder and set it aside. When he lifted the weights, it was a shock to all
the people because there was a big box under it.
On the top of the box was written a prize of one thousand
gold coins for those who take this stone and put it aside. Everyone there was
sad thinking that they had lost a thousand gold coins.
The king said that the
people of the country are free to blame the government or blame others but you,
the people of the country, have no responsibility. The people of that country
went on to say that we will not blame the government or others, but we will
also behave actively and responsibly.
Better to correct ourselves than to blame others.
